Tips / Tricks / Hints

  • Remember to eat.  It is important that your metabolism remains stable throughout the day.  You do not have to eat full meals but light snacks
as you prepare for your wedding is good.  Snacks such as trail mix, cheese and
crackers and fresh fruit.  Drink plenty of water.  Too many brides and
bridal party members ignore this important point.  With nerves,
anticipation, excitement and flow of adrenaline, we have seen a few
fainting spells during the ceremony.  We don`t want that to happen to you.

  • Whether you choose to have your gown custom made or purchase off the rack, it is very important that you wear the actual undergarments and shoes (that you will be wearing on your special day) at ALL fittings!
  • Body glitter looks beautiful in person, however, in your photos it shows up as white spots.  These white spots can get very expensive to retouch!  So no body glitter unless you want to pay your photographer a bunch of extra money!!!
  • On the wedding day, time seems out of the norm.  What should take 30
minutes can take more than an hour.  It takes longer for you to have
your hair done, make-up applied, putting on the gown and chatting with
your friends in the bridal party.  This is your day - allow time to
enjoy minute without rushing and becoming harried.

  • If you are having a beach wedding, remember that there is always a strong on-shore wind!  So hairspray, hairspray, and more hairspray!  Make sure your hair is very stiff or it will blow into your face. (Even the guys with long hair).  Up-dos work well on the beach but side curls will blow across your face, so you may want to have them pinned up while you are on the beach, then release them once you get inside.
  • If bustling is required on your gown, make sure your maid of honor is fully knowledgeable of how to bustle your gown.  Have her practice repeatedly until she has it down to a science!
  • It is a very good idea to book your ceremony & reception location 10 months to a year in advance. When picking our your perfect venue for your ceremony & reception keep in mind your guest list and make sure the venue can accommodate all your guests.

  • When holding your bouquets, have your thumbs about belly-button height, girls tend to hold their bouquets too high, then they look like a beautiful head on top of flowers.

Latest Wedding Cake Trends:

Cake or cupcake, find a cake that suits your taste and overall wedding theme. They have to look gorgeous and taste good. Decorations with handmade gumpaste flowers, shells/starfish and delicate dots and scroll work remain popular. Also couples are choosing cakes that fit with the location and season of their wedding.

Four to five tiers is the average size for a wedding of 150-200 people. But cakes are getting taller either by adding more tiers or by putting them on a fabulous stand to add height and drama.
Smooth fondant icing is most common. Popular cake flavors include almond, chocolate, carrot, Italian wedding and "white" or also non-traditional flavors such as tiramisu and cinnamon apple. Flowers, sculptures, and large monogrammed letters are replacing the traditional bride and groom cake top.

Wedding Invitations

Your wedding invitation is the first impression a guest has of your wedding day.  Purchasing your wedding invitations is an area for the experts and that is why going to an experienced stationer is so much better than an internet order, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Enjoy the comfort of sitting face to face in a relaxed environment.  In addition to having access to the stationer`s expertise and years of experience, you have someone who invests their time into your wedding experience.  When you look through an invitation
catalogue, you can feel and touch the paper quality, see all the different fonts applied to your invitation, see the true colors of inks and rely on the expert for correct wording.

The personal touch is so important. Often invitations have to be "put together", meaning folding, adding ribbons, etc.  Your invitation specialist can do that as well as addressing the inner and outer envelopes, with return address on outer flap.  What a time saver for you!  An internet purchase will not offer that luxury.  With the personal touch comes a true sense of security and a guarantee of quality product and quality service."  All of this with competitive prices to fit your personal budget.

Leave It To A Pro (Wedding Planner, that is)

Any wedding, large or small, will involve more planning, foresight and multitasking than any other event you will personally organize.  You may have a busy work schedule, attend school, take night classes and be involved in other activities that consume most of your time.  You will appreciate the help that a professional Wedding Planner can provide.

A good planner will walk with you step by step as you plan all aspects of your wedding, offering advice, answering questions, handling emergencies, being flexible, attending vendor appointments with you as well as many other things all while serving as your advocate in every situation.

Before hiring a professional wedding planner, do your homework by inquiring about their training, number of weddings they have planned and asking for both personal and business references. Interview the wedding planner to be assured he/she will follow your wedding wishes and not make it someone else`s style and that you feel confident working with that person.

You will save yourself a lot of stress, headaches and worries as well as avoid expensive mistakes by having the expertise of a professional planner on your side.  Think about it - a planner`s fee is modest considering the large monetary investment in your wedding.

Wedding Gowns

When deciding between a salon purchased vs. custom designed wedding gown, it is highly advisable to first try on off-the-rack gowns at a bridal salon to determine the silhouette (ball gown, A-line, mermaid) and color (white versus ivory) that is most flattering to the bride`s figure/skin tone.  Once the Bride decides, she is able to confidently convey her wishes to the custom designer and ultimately have the gown of her dreams.

How to measure:  Measure over undergarments, keep measuring tape level and pull it snug, but not tight. (If you will be wearing special undergarments with your dress, measure over those.) Don`t have a measuring tape? Just use a piece of string then measure it with a ruler!
A. Bust: Measure at the fullest part over an unpadded bra (or the undergarments you will wear with the dress).
B. Waist: Measure at natural waist (generally the smallest part - about 2 inches above the belly button).
C. Hips: Measure around fullest part of hips (often where the legs bend), keeping tape level all around.

Picking The Best Photographer For You

Chances are that you have already done some research on acquiring the perfect wedding photographer for your big day. After looking on-line at portfolios to narrow down the style of photography you like, you probably have talked to friends and family to get their recommendations. The time has come to narrow down your list of potential photographers and make an appointment to talk. But what do you do at the consultation???

Ask to review the photographer`s current work and confirm that the samples you are viewing were taken by the photographer. Are they also the same photographer you would be hiring for the day? See if they are familiar with the location you are having your ceremony and if they have any albums specific to that site. If they don`t, look for samples that reflect a similar wedding to the one you have planned (small and intimate ceremony or large event with many guests, most of the day`s events indoors or outdoors, etc.) Once you have comfortably reviewed their work, there are some other things you should know.

  • How long has the photographer been in business? Since the pricing of good quality digital cameras has come down, there are many people who claim to be "professional photographers". Their prices may be GREAT, but their professionalism may be lacking. You will want someone who is experienced in working a camera, taking photos, grouping individuals, editing digital images, and who offers the types of products you are interested in (albums, large size prints, canvases, etc)
  • Can they provide references? A good photographer can provide names and numbers of previous clients who can provide a reference for them. Obviously the photographer is going to refer you to people that were pleased with their work. However in speaking to the references you can also get an idea of how easily the day flowed and how the photographer interacted with the guests.
  • Does the photographer come prepared with backup equipment? It is just good practice to always have extra equipment on-hand. Unfortunately, you never know if/when there is going to be a malfunction and it is imperative that a glitch with the camera doesn`t impede your activities.
  • Does the photographer provide you a list of sample photos to take on your wedding day? Are they willing to meet with you before the wedding to go over the shoot list? There are always some photos that are "must haves" on your wedding day. You want to hire a photographer who ensures that you are getting the photos that are important to you and your family.
After all the guests have left, the flowers have wilted, and the music is gone, you will have the images captured from your day to revisit. Carefully selecting your photographer will assist in ensuring that you have these memories for a lifetime.
